It was her eyes I remember. They were an incredible bright blue. And for the couple of minutes we talked they never left my eyes. She listened to everything I said, never once taking her eyes away from mine. She seemed really interested in what I had to say. Cynics will say, she\u2019s trained to do this. Maybe they\u2019re right. On that day there were many people receiving honours but I\u2019ll bet they felt the same as I did. I was very nervous but somehow she made me feel relaxed. But the memory I take away from the ceremony is her warmth\u2026..and those blue, blue eyes.<\/span><\/p>\n

I’m Gordon Griffin<\/strong><\/h1>\n

I’ve been an actor for over 60 years and I\u2019ve done it all from Shakespeare to rock musicals. Claims to fame? Well, for quite a while I was one of the people telling you to \u201cMind the Gap, please\u201d on the London Underground. I also presented Playschool and in my first film I acted in a scene with Gregory Peck and Sophia Loren. Just the three of us! I was in the first two series of Byker Grove and in fact spoke the very first line of the very first episode! I recently recorded an episode of The Crown. But I\u2019m best known as a multi-award winning narrator of audiobooks. I\u2019ve recorded 980+ (and counting!) – from Homer to Chris Ryan, from Gogol to Hilary Mantel, from Dickens to Catherine Cookson,\u00a0I have even recorded the \u2018unreadable\u2019 FINNEGAN’S WAKE<\/span>! Many non-fiction titles too.\u00a0Recent recordings include AN ACCIDENTAL ICON, the autobiography of Norman Scott and the economist Hamish McRae\u2019s fascinating THE WORLD IN 2050.<\/span><\/h4>\n

In the 2017 Birthday Honours, I received an MBE from\u00a0Her Majesty the Queen for my services to audiobooks.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

In 2009 I was thrilled to be Ambassador for #loveaudio festival.<\/span><\/h4>\n
