About six weeks ago I got a letter which left me speechless. It told me that it had been approved to be be appointed a Member of the British Empire (MBE) for my services to audiobooks and charity. Six weeks later I am still reeling! But at least now I can talk about it as tomorrow the Queen’s Birthday Honours List is published. When I started recording audiobooks it was rather looked down upon by many. “You record books for the blind,” they’d say in a rather dispareging way. Now of course audiobooks are the fastest growing sector in the world of publishing. I’m heading for 800 audiobooks – I have been at it a long time and I have seen many changes. I proudly accept this honour on behalf of myself but also for the industry as a whole.
