A couple of years ago I met Michael Bond at the launch of the two volume history of Playschool. He was charming and told about how he used to work in the BBC children’s television department and worked on (among other things) Playschool. His work there inspired him to try his hand at writing a children’s story. Well……the rest is history. The result was Paddington Bear! He gave up his job at the BBC and concentrated on writing. I’d not realised that he’d written for adults but I am delighted to be recording the latest book is is Pamplemousse series. M. Pamplemousse is a former policeman who now works for Le Guide (a sort of Michelin organisation) and who is aided and abetted by his bloodhound Pommes Frites! Pamplemousse and the Tangled Web was written only recently. It’s full of fun and vitality. Michael Bond is 89!
