A Dreadful Past by Peter Turnbull
Narrator Gordon Griffin outdoes himself with a mystery that focuses on the interrogation aspect of a police investigation. In an antique shop, Charles Middleton of York is shocked to notice a familiar vase that was stolen 20 years earlier when his parents and blind sister were killed in an unsolved murder at their home. It’s impressive to hear Detective Inspector Hennessey and his partner, Yellich, peel back the layers of the old case. Griffin impeccably portrays myriad suspects and witnesses; standouts are a forceful elderly nurse and a tragic handicapped man who was used by the thugs. Well-realized transitions between past and present, along with diverse speakers, are captivating. Listeners will relish hearing how the police use old and new evidence to solve the murder.
