I am thrilled to be recording David Lough’s new book WINSTON DARLING – the letters between Churchill and his beautiful American mother Jennie. The letters start when Winston is only eight and continue until Jennie’s death forty years later. The letters are fascinating. You see Winston’s development: his cunning, his  deviousness even from such an early age. But what is most poignant is the change in this complicated relationship: Winston, early on so reliant on his mother and later, after the death of her husband Lord Randolph (syphilis?) and a string of unhappy love affairs, how Jennie becomes so reliant on her son. I have been booked for an astonishing SIX days to record this (there are a lot of letters!). I am so looking forward to telling this extraordinary story.
